Hello members,

i have recently bought a GeForce 8600 GT graphic card.

i inserted the card in the pci-express slot.
As i start the pc....normal windows xp screen appears, but instead of
the login screen....the monitor blacks out and a message appears
saying "out of range 74.9 Hz / 60 Hz".

My pc configuration is:
pentium(R) D 3.40GHz.
D945GNT motherboard.
1 GB DDR2 RAM.
17 inch lg-l1752s lcd monitor.

Kindly help me resolve this problem...

Thanx & regards,
Sachin Hegde

put the old video card back in. set you control panel display setting to 640x480 @ 60 hz.

put you new video card back in.

Your old video card was using a display format your new video card can not do.

Hope this helps,

While you are sitting there looking at the black video results from your new card.

unplug the vga from the new video card and plug it back into the onboard vga connector.
Does your monitor now display your windows desktop ?

if yes: At this point you can install your new card video graphics drivers.

or

you can uninstall the onboard video drivers so that the default generic video driver is the microsoft vga driver.
Plug the new video card back into the monitor. Then reboot and the new video card should be okay.

further: some main boards in the bios will not automatically shut off your onboard video, and it remains the primary video.
Do you have a bios selection that gives you a choice between onboard and PCI Express X16 ?

Hope this helps,

Premature assessment, unless you have specific knowledge of the mode of
failure and are keeping it a secret.

It still sounds like a desktop settings issue, recall he can get to a
DOS screen.

Remove the card.
Boot into Windows.
Uninstall the display adapter drivers.
Install proper .inf file for your monitor.
Shut down the system.
Boot to the BIOS.
Disable the on-board video, save changes.
Reboot to Windows.
Install nVidia drivers.

This should properly set up your new display adapter to work with your
monitor (your LCD monitor will not work at the refresh rate of 74.9 Hz.
Almost all LCD monitors are limited to a 60 Hz refresh rate (60 frames per
second.)

If you press F8 before Windows boots and pick VGA mode, does it work?

You have to go into the bios. On start up keep tapping the
"del" key and you should have the bios screen come up.
You'll just have to look around and find your on board
video and disable it.

I don't know where it is as I don't have onboard video.

Hope this helps.
